Skincare Basics

We are getting back to skincare basics. Skincare today has become confusing for many of us. Acids, peels, and combined ingredients are a science in themselves.

Products now contain supersonic ingredients with endless steps that we struggle to master, leaving us a little more than red-faced. Though the latest trending products seem alluring, they might do more harm than good for your skin type.

That’s why nailing these skincare basics is a must. At Green Angel, we believe that superior skincare should be simple, easy to do, and most importantly, consistent. Get back to basics with these five steps.

The Skincare Basics You Need to Know

Basic #1

Cleansing is the fundamental step to any AM and PM skincare routine. In the morning, awaken and refresh your skin with a light cleanse. At night, dissolve any sweat, dirt, and makeup with a deep cleanse.

The cleanser you choose will depend on your skin type. The general rule is; foaming for oily skin, creamy for dry skin, and combination skin will depend on if you’re more dry or oily. Normal skin can use anything; it is what works for you.

A top tip for makeup wearers is to use an oil or a balm cleanser to remove makeup first and then go in with your regular cleanser for that double cleanse effect. Do not be afraid to swap your cleanser type either. Your AM and PM needs may be different.

Basic #2

Toner preps the skin after cleansing. It also helps to dampen the skin, which leaves it in the best condition to absorb the following product.

When you are selecting a toner, look for hydrating and soothing ingredients. They will do the most for your skin and help maintain moisture levels which is the key to a youthful look.

A toner can double as a facial spritz for an on-the-go refresh. Look for one in a spray bottle or decant your regular bottle. It will even work over makeup when you need a boost.

Basic #3

Moisturiser. We all know what it is, what it does, and we all have our preferences. The real trick with a moisturiser is in how you use it, whatever the ingredients.

Apply as much cream as needed to the face and neck, and massage into the skin while damp. Use circular motions and think of lifting and draining the lymph nodes with each movement. If you are unsure where to start, there are endless tutorials online to help.

Basic #4

Serums are one of the newer skincare steps. A concentrate of powerful ingredients, these will seriously step up your skin game.

Serums can be water or oil-based, so it is a personal preference which one you choose. Your preference will also dictate where this step goes. For oil-based serums, it is recommended to put them on last to lock in the rest of your products. Whereas, water-based products perform best after toner, as your step three.

If you are looking for something new, try out the Green Angel Serum with Hyaluronic Spheres and Essential Oils. The oil-based serum will help lock in moisture to the skin and is a must-have whether you’re trying to slow down or prevent aging.

Nothing ages the skin more than the UV rays from the sun. As much as we all want that gorgeous sun-kissed glow, we must do it safely.

Summer and Winter, we should be wearing at least SPF30 every single day. Experts recommend using an SPF separate from your moisturiser and putting on a half tablespoon per application.

When picking an SPF, look for one that protects from UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays age us, and UVB rays burn us. So, it is important to cover both areas. Remember to reapply it every two hours if you are in direct sunlight.

Skincare can be simple and effective by mastering these five basic steps. Our skin is delicate and precious; we should treat it well. Simplicity is the key to great skin. Do you agree? Have your say on our Instagram and Facebook now, or let us know your favourite basics.
