We all know what a happy, Stress-free Christmas looks like:
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos …
Smiling, Happy Families
This is how we want Christmas to be. Smiling, happy families, sitting around a log fire or at a table laden with festive goodies; a beautifully roasted turkey with home-made sage and onion stuffing and gravy and roast potatoes, cooked in goose fat and sprouts and celery done to perfection, a Christmas pudding covered in mulled wine and served with delicious brandy sauce; Everything coming together with effortless ease and everyone getting on like a house on fire.
Stressed and Harassed Parents
But the reality is often quite different; Christmas can in fact be a very stressful time of year, especially for harassed parents, trying to make the season ‘bright’ for their kids. Turkeys don’t cook themselves. The self-cleaning house has yet to be invented. Presents don’t arrive, miraculously at the door (or down the chimney), ready wrapped.
Christmas is Hard Work
If you want to have “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,” then it’s very likely that you will have to go and fetch the logs and the chestnuts and bring them home and light the fire yourself. The truth is Christmas is hard work, and unless you are Santa Claus and have an attic full of elves, you are going to have to do the work yourself or ask others for help.
Preparing for Christmas involves a lot of hard work; extra shopping, cooking, cleaning, wrapping, organising, entertaining etc. It’s not a good idea to try to do it all yourself – ask for help or delegate. Make a family ‘To Do’ list then divide up all of the chores according to age and ability.
Keep your Expectations Real
Trying to create the ‘perfect’ Christmas will put you under pressure and leave you feeling stressed and burnt-out by the time the big day arrives. Instead, try to keep your expectations real; things don’t always go according to plan – the gravy might be a bit lumpy, if it is – so what, it’s not the end of the world. You may have forgotten to buy a present for your great aunt Mimi – it’s not ideal, but it’s not a flogging offence either.
Choose a Christmas that Suits you and your Family
Tradition and convention are all fine and lovely, but they can sometimes be like a noose around our necks. This year, why not put tradition and convention aside and design a Christmas that suits you.
If organising drinks and nibbles for neighbours and friends on Christmas morning, brings you out in a rash, then don’t do it. Instead have friends and family around for some left-over pudding and mulled wine in the middle of January, when you will be relaxed and better able to enjoy their company. They will appreciate your efforts all the more as the joys of Christmas fade and are now just a distant memory.
Take time out
Do what you need to do, then take some time out for rest and relaxation. To rest and relax, you might like to do what I do; light some candles and place them around the bath, then shake some Green Angel Rest and Calm Bath Soak into the water as it flows into your bath tub. As you immerse yourself in the warm liquid, the fragrance from the essential oils will fill your nostrils, helping you to feel calm and relaxed, while the mineral rich seas salts will soothe and soften your tense and tired muscles and make your skin feel soft and smooth.
Green Angel Bath Soak Combination – Rest and Calm, Muscular Reliever and Joint Reviver – an ideal Christmas Gift this year.
Give a helping hand
If your partner is not good at guessing what you want for Christmas, it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t love you, it’s much more likely to mean that he is not good at reading your mind. Give him a helping hand and tell him what you would like. Sometimes it’s best to spell it out. “I would just love to get the Green Angel Seaweed and Collagen Face Cream and Night Cream … Oh and a surprise.” Just think how great you will feel on Christmas morning when you discover that not only has he given you, your favorite day and night creams, but has also bought you a range of body treatments in an all in one Body Soft Gift Set.
And if you are lucky enough not to need collagen for your skin, you could always ask for Green Angel Seaweed Daily Moisture Face Cream and Seaweed Night Cream. This wonderful duo will ensure that your skin looks and feels amazing as the seaweed and essential oils rejuvenate and nourish your skin.
Everyone, here at Green Angel would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our Customers a very Happy and Stress Free Christmas. Nollaig shona daoibh agus bail ó Dhia oraibh
